Here are the ones we have so far:

What is a “domain name” and why do I need one?

A domain name is basically your street address on the internet.  It is what other computers on the internet use to find you web site. More accurately, it is what other computers on the internet use to find the computer that has your web site on it. For example, our domain is foresitecomputing.com.

The question of whether or not you need one is something else. The answer depends on who you ask, and what your e-business goals are. The people that will work the hardest to convince you that you need one are probably the ones who are trying to sell you their domain registration services. If you ask me, you do not absolutely need one.

Your web site does need to have a domain to reside in, but you do not necessarily need a domain name of your own. With the right marketing, your web site can be easily found by everyone no matter what “domain” it is in.  For example, one of the most popular sites on the internet for Barbie Dolls is in one of our domains, foresitecomputing.net. If you go to Google.com and search for “barbies and disney dolls” you should find a link to :www.foresitecomputing.net/Barbies/ in the search results. When I did this search a few minutes ago, it was at the very top the list! The owner of this site chose to host the site with us rather than purchase a unique domain name for the site.

Of course, it does not hurt to have a domain name of your own, and it can help, so if you can afford it the go for it! It isn’t all that expensive these days - probably about $35 per year at most.  We will be glad to help you choose and obtain your own domain name if you want one.
